Comment on Problem with Lacie-2Big NAS by admin

As a matter of fact, this model is really weak.
After one year of intense usage, the onboard sqlite database gets filled-up and the samba server does not work.
Tried to rebuild the RAID1 array, RESET the machine, nothing worked.

So there I am with my two RAID1 disks and a useless housing which cannot be upgraded with the new firmware version because it refuses to apply the patches provided on the manufacturer's download page...

I have purchased this LACIE-2BIG in august 2009 and there is a three years warranty on the product.

After many exchanges with Lacie online support, which is actually quite reactive, they eventually invited me to ship the NAS back to their Paris workshop and warned carefully that I should backup my files before doing so, because they would get lost in the maintenance process...

So I ended up with a machine unable to work properly, unable to backup my data on a single USB disk and unreachable on the network.
I took the disks off, carefully not breaking the seals and plugged the main disk into a SATA HDD Docking station plugged into my Ubuntu laptop.
I tried to mount the disk and got the following result :
dominique@dominique-ubuntu:~$ sudo mount /dev/sdc2 /mnt/LACIE500
[sudo] password for dominique:
mount: type inconnu de système de fichiers 'linux_raid_member'

The trick is to use xfs type in the mount command :

dominique@dominique-ubuntu:~$ sudo mount /dev/sdc /mnt/LACIE320 -t linux_raid_member
mount: type inconnu de système de fichiers 'linux_raid_member'
dominique@dominique-ubuntu:~$ sudo mount /dev/sdc2 /mnt/LACIE320 -t xfs

ther you get back access to all your files in the <mntpoint>/share/share directory

Hope that helps !
